Platform Migration
Platform Migration
An average message or online storage platform lasts between 10 and 15 years. After or during such time, a service provider must either replace the platform with a different vendor’s solution or update it to a new version (for example, from Exchange 2013 to Exchange 2019). (e.g., Exchange to Zimbra). In addition, service providers may decide to combine various platforms into a single new or current one.
Data migration from the old platform to the new platform is typically required by the service provider when migrating to a solution from a different vendor. Since most customers are compelled to convert to the new platform, the service provider should guarantee a smooth transition for all users.
There are three general approaches to platform migration that can be taken into consideration:
- Platform migrations frequently include transferring low-level database or file-system data because of the enormous amounts of data involved.
- Migration can be performed via common APIs if the source or destination system does not permit low-level access (as in many cloud-based contexts).
- Customers may choose to migrate their platforms one at a time over time utilizing our self-service migration tools, either voluntarily on their behalf or with the assistance of support staff.
